Palm Springs Photo Festival 2014

Thursday, May 1st, 2014

I made it back as a volunteer for the second time to the wonderful Palm Springs Photo Festival this year. I reconnected with old friends and made new ones. I met some awesome master photographers like Greg Gorman, Greg Heisler and Frank Ockenfels lll. What I enjoy best about visiting the festival is that you leave with a new found energy, an energy with a desire to be the best you can be. Here are some images that I snapped at the festival.

WINTER WORKSHOP – January 4, 2014

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

On January 4, 2014 I hosted my 5th natural lighting workshop. My attendees consisted of intermediate level photographers and parents who simply wanted to learn how to take better pictures of their children. We learned the principal functions of the dslr’s manual mode settings, then we went on-location for some live model shooting. Lucky for us, we had a custom motorcycle arrive during our live-shoot so we got some cool still life images.

I love teaching this natural light workshop because my attendees leave with a really good understanding of quality of light. The key to a great photograph is the subjects expression and the quality of light. Once I teach you how to light a photo, you got half the battle won!

The pictures below were taken from the workshop in natural light only. California Sunbounce reflectors were used to kick back natural light into the frame.

PALM SPRINGS PHOTO FESTIVAL 2014

Saturday, November 30th, 2013

Palm Springs Photo Festival 2014 is right around the corner. Attending a large photography festival like this is very inspiring. People from all over the world come together with one major thing in common, Photography. Last year I was fortunate to be on the transportation team. I drove the instructors, attendees and even the boss himself Mr. Jeff Dunas to their destinations. Below are photos that I captured during my driving shift.

NATURAL LIGHT PHOTO WORKSHOP 2013

Tuesday, February 5th, 2013

On January 5, 2013 I hosted my 3rd natural lighting workshop. A sold-out class was eager to master their cameras. We enjoyed snacks, drinks and a delicious lunch together while we learned the dslr’s manual mode settings. After the lecture the attendees put their new new skills to the test while shooting live models.

SUMMER WORKSHOP RESULTS!

Sunday, August 12th, 2012

I am proud to say that my second ever workshop is in the books! This workshop was a little different from my first. It was hosted on-location at a cool historic victorian style home in Reedley. To my surprise, every attendee was a return from my first workshop. I was delighted to have them back and teach them new tricks. We reviewed the Manual mode functions then tackled the histogram. After the lecture we put our new skills to the test while shooting a live model.

PHOTO WORKSHOP RESULTS!

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

My first photography workshop was a blast! I had been wanting to host one for a long time and I am very happy I finally did. The class quickly filled up so a second day was added to keep the class size small and intimate. My main focus was to teach the the average person how to maximize their camera to its potential and how to find good natural light anytime of the day.

I cannot put in words how happy I was to see the expressions of my attendee’s faces after they saw how well their photos were looking, It was “PRICELESS!” Some attendees had just got their camera and yet their photos were looking like a professionals would. They couldn’t believe it. It was an awesome feeling to be able to teach my recipe of a good photo. I will have to host another class soon.
